When should I book the removals van?

You should book as soon as you have a confirmed date. You don't want to be rushing around a day or two before the move, trying to find a company that can move you. Fridays are particularly busy for moving house, so if you plan to move on a Friday, book it as soon as possible.

How much will it cost?

The cost of a removal is based on the time it takes, the size of the vehicle required and the distance travelled. Give as much information as you can, as quotes are based on information provided. Don't forget to mention any problems with bad access or parking. Click here and complete the form for a free quote.

Are my goods insured?

Your goods will usually be insured up to the sum of £25,000. If you wish to increase cover, you must let us know when you request the quote.

What happens if I don't get the keys on time?

If the work is stopped at the customer's request, (ie because they are waiting for keys or transfer of funds) then Waiting Time is usually incurred. Waiting Time is charged at an hourly rate which varies according to the amount of people on the job.

A Waiting Time Waiver is often available for a small fee.

Do I need to empty my drawers?

Most modern furniture is quite unstable with any weight in it. It is always better to empty the drawers into boxes, to avoid the furniture collapsing while being moved.

Do I need to empty my wardrobes?

Unless you are moving into storage, it is not necessary to empty your wardrobes into boxes. On the day of the move, wardrobe boxes/hangers, (aka garment carriers) will be used. You will only need to transfer your clothes from the wardrobe to the carrier, then from the carrier to the wardrobe at the delivery address.

What type of boxes should I use?

Any sturdy box is fine. Don't use crisp boxes or open top boxes. The boxes will have to be stacked on the van, so they should be sealed and labelled. For environmental reasons, try to use second-hand boxes. Books and heavy items should be packed into smaller boxes to avoid overloading.

What other materials will I need?

You may need packing paper, for wrapping fragile items before placing in boxes. Try not to use newspaper, as the print makes it a very dirty job to pack and unpack. Bubblewrap may be needed to wrap pictures and flat screens. If you are moving into storage, you may need paper/polythene mattress sleeves and, of course, you will need packing tape. All these products, including recycled boxes are available at reasonable prices.

Tea or Coffee?

Yes, it's true. Removals men like their cups of tea and a happy crew is a more efficient crew. Make sure you don't pack the kettle, etc. until last.
