Valley Borough Council) was formed, in 1974 from Borough
of Blyth, Seaton Valley Urban District Council and part of
Whitley Bay Borough Council.
Throughout history Blyth has been active
in shipbuilding, coal export and fishing, among other industries.

of Blyth still handles over 1.5 million tonnes of bulk
and container cargo per year.
